The Tapestry on WeRelate is a complex of inter-related articles dealing with family, cultural, and natural history. The Tapestry has been designed to make it easy to get around from one area to another. To this end a common navigation scheme is in use relying heavily on "iconized" links, some of which appear on this page. As an example, when you see the ship icon to the left, anywhere on the Tapistry, clicking the link will return you to this page.
|
| Part of the navigation system in use here is providing specific icons that link to pages containing similar information, no matter which project you happen to be looking at. Currently, the set of icons is most completely developed for the Southwest Virginia Project. Old Augusta and Old Chester share some of these icons, and it seems likely that eventually, more will make their way into these latter projects. Here are some examples from the Southwest Virginia Project:
| | This icon is based on the well known painting depicting Daniel Boone leading a party through the Cumberland Gap to Kentucky. This link will take you to a project specific list of early settlers in the area. Eventually each settler listed will be linked to an article about them. The icon chosen is only peripherally related to the Tapistry, but seems to best illustrate what the Tapestry is about.
|
Here are some administrative icons from the Southwest Virginia Project, that may be of interest.
And here are some "content" oriented icons where you may find cultural, historical and environmental articles related to Southwest Virginia.
Some of these icons may eventually make their way into other project as the needs arises. Some are highly specific to the Southwest Virginia Project, others more generic. Generic articles may eventually be placed under the "Tapistry" heading as they serve the purposes of all projects under the Tapistry.
