A black & white photograph of Miss Joan Askew, which appeared in The Sevenoaks Chronicle – Westerham Courier and Kentish Advertiser – published Friday 3 July, 1925 on page 14 – under the title:
EN ROUTE TO THEIR MAJESTIES’ COURT.
A DEBUTANTE SNAPSHOTTED.
And with the following text beneath:
« Miss Joan Askew, daughter of the late Claude and Alice Askew, whose novels delighted thousands of readers, was presented at their Majesties’ Court prior to her departure from England in October for Burmah, where her marriage will take place on her arrival to Mr. Alston Freeman, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Freeman, of Waterlake, Chiddingstone. Miss Askew was snapshotted in St. James’ Park en route for Buckingham Palace by a “Daily Graphic” camera man, whose photograph we reproduce. Miss Askew wore a dress of white beaded georgette with a pink-lined train, and was presented by her aunt, Mrs. Lake Walker. »
Note: This photograph has been copied and somewhat enhanced (removing some blemishes) from a newspaper cutting, which used to be in the possession of Joan Askew's younger sister, the late Miss Gilian (Jill) Askew. And is now in the possession of their niece, Miss Robin Askew (Robinca).
