Watchers

This is a scan of a page from a photo album created by Margaret Agness Watson Cooke, Barry, Pike County, Illinois. She evidently received a Brownie camera for Christmas 1912 and took photos of family and friends in Barry and surrounding areas, and on a visit to Henrietta, Clay County, Texas to visit the R.H. Palmer family. Their daughter Bess Mona Palmer, later married Margaret's brother Brett. Some photos were removed and glued into copies of the books Margaret's parents created about their families' histories.

Top Row: Left Photo: (missing): "October 1912 Margaret W, Ruth, Elizabeth, Cordell"; Right Photo: "Sunday afternoon October 1912 Me, Sophia, Glenna, Esther" (Esther McVay was Margaret Watson's best friend.)

The Haileys were children of Methodist minister Rev. William Hailey. In the 1910 census he was ministering to a church in Rushville, Illinois, but by 1912 he was minister at the Methodist Church the Watsons attended. Margaret grew very close to Fosterr Hailey, who became a noted war correspondent during World War II.
