Order placed for Louis Brautman's gravestone by Nina Brautman (Mrs. Irving Fassler). In Hebrew: "Here lies Leib Yitzchak son of reb David HaLevi, died 7 Tishri 5695. May his soul be bound up in the bond of eternal life." (Death date was during the days of awe, a few days before Yom Kippur.) In English: "Louis Brautman / died Sept. 16, 1934 / age 70 yrs / FATHER" The requested design on top is a pitcher pouring into a water bowl, signifying that Louis Brautman was a Levite. The order shows Nina (Brautman) Fassler's address, 235 Mount Hope Place in the Bronx, which was just 1 block from where her father and mother lived in their last years (314 Tremont Ave). It also shows her phone number of Tremont[?] 2-6313. The black granite stone, 1'10" wide and 3'10" tall is meant to duplicate the stone ordered for Louis' wife, who died in 1932 (two years before Louis), which was ordered from the same company. The cost of $120 is about $1,875 in inflation-adjusted 2008 dollars (per US CPI data). File historyLegend: (cur) = this is the current file, (del) = delete
