The present Birse kirk was built in 1779. It is of coursed granite walls in a plain rectangular plan, with a small ball-capped bellcote topped by a weather vane adorning the west gable. It seats 550.

The kirkyard has about 30 recumbent and hundreds of upright tombstones, mostly dating from the 19th century.
