Alice Burse was Henry Puttick's servant/housekeeper in both the 1901[3] and 1911[4] censuses. Henry was listed as married in both of these censuses (although his marriage record cannot be easily found - records prove he was not the Henry Puttick who married Ellen Burrage) and Alice as single. There was no other adult female in the household in either census.

In the 1901 census, Alice's children were listed as boarders. In the 1911 census, they were listed as Henry's daughters and sons. It is presumed that Henry was the biological father of at least the children born 1901 and later, and probably of all of Alice's children.
