Foundation for On-Line Genealogy? [1 December 2018]

Is this still a going concern? The website can't be reached (by me), suggesting it is defunct. --ceyockey 15:04, 1 December 2018 (UTC)

Suggestion for this page [20 July 2022]

Would someone please update the second paragraph to note that now WR has over 3, not 2, million people?--Julie Kelts 12:41, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

About the software? [22 July 2022]

Do you think it would be useful to indicate that WeRelate uses an earlier version of the Wiki platform software that Wikipedia uses? That might give more impact to the commentary on Wikipedia. --ceyockey 00:35, 23 July 2022 (UTC)

In the news [22 July 2022]

I took a look at some werelate mentions ... is there a place for press mentions? Here are a few that are available via Newspapers.com ... I have access via Wikipedia, so I'm not going to clip things for WeRelate with that access, but I don't think it's a violation to provide citations:

  • "Groundbreaking African-American site launched", by Nancianne Parks Suber. The Clarion-Ledger, 4 Apr 2008, pg 6D
speaks to WeRelate in relation to a collaboration with the USF Africana Heritage Project to produce "the Lowcountry Africana Web site"
  • "Site team to augment name database", by Sharon Burns. The Daily Oklahoman, 6 Feb 2012, pg 5C
speaks to WeRelate in relation to colloboration with Ancestry.com and BehindtheName.com to compile a names variant database
  • "It's Too Soon To Jump On The Wiki Bandwagon", by Sharon Tate Moody. The Tampa Tribune, 28 Oct 2007, pg 8 (Baylife section).
speaks to WeRelate as having "the most respectable credential" among genealogy wiki sites, but a generally negative piece about using online wikis for genealogical work
  • "Indiana library helps get records online", by Sharon Burns. The Daily Oklahoman, 19 Jan 2009, pg 5C
talks about WeRelate as a partner of The Allen County Library Genealogy Center
  • "Genealogy group to discuss wikis", by Sharon Burns. The Daily Oklahoman, 3 Jan 2011, pg 5C
mentions WeRelate as "the largest genealogical wiki"

There are more, but that's enough for now. I might take one or more of these into the Wikipedia WeRelate article (if they are not already there). --ceyockey 01:03, 23 July 2022 (UTC)

P.S. none of the newspapers mentioned have obvious source pages on WeRelate :-( I've been creating newspaper source pages on a regular basis as I've encountered the newspapers as sources, but there are soooooo many that are not here that are relevant. --ceyockey 01:05, 23 July 2022 (UTC)

Hello, ceyockey. We haven't met but I've recently taken an interest in WeRelate.

My impression--and forgive me if I seem arrogant, being a newcomer here--is that the articles you've listed are all quite old, and from what I've heard from other possibly interested people lately, quoting them might just add to the impression that WR is a has-been.

I would love to see WR attract new members. But would it be worth having a discussion first about what kind of members we should attract? I was a WikiTree member for several years, and I and many of my fellow members despaired that people were welcomed in so indiscriminately, and allowed to post so much junk to the site.

P.S. Should this discussion be moved the the Watercooler?--Julie Kelts 01:20, 23 July 2022 (UTC)

Hi. Dallan is on vacation until early August. I think it best to wait until he is back to get his input on this topic.--DataAnalyst 01:58, 23 July 2022 (UTC)
