I'm Randall Dickerson, an amateur genealogist of Mvskoke(Muscogee)/Cherokee/English/Scotch ancestry.

The surnames I seek are DICKERSON, ARGO, HODGES, LOWREY, BILLINGSLEY, SCOGGINS, ARMSTRONG, WATKINS, BYARS, JENKINS, BRITT, SORRELLS, SMITH, BOLAN, BURKS throughout the Southeastern United States.

At my Mothers' death it dawned on me how little I knew of my heritage. In Alabama, as in most places in the early 20th century, one did not admit to being anything but *white* for fear of economic or physical retribution (loss of job, destruction of property, etc.). Since her death and burial in 1988 I have been on a quest to discover that past.

My DICKERSON line came to Alabama from Trousdale County, Tennesse, Albemarle County, Virginia, and England, according to my not yet fully documented sources. The ARGO and BRITT lines in Jefferson County, Alabama, go back to Tallapoosa County, Alabama, and abruptly vanish. My Argo Grandfather insisted that his Muscogee ancestors fought against Andrew Jackson in the battle of Horseshoe Bend.

My HODGES ancestors came from South Carolina and the BILLINGSLEY clan from Georgia, each with murky histories they did not share.

So far, I have found Civil War Veterans in the HODGES and BRITT lines, and one possible DICKERSON veteran.

I'm also a Cemetery enthusiast and a member of the Alabama Cemetery Preservation Alliance.
