John D. Beatty is the bibliographer for the Genealogy Center for the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, Indiana; he is also a reference librarian. John has been with the Genealogy Center since 1984, and since that time has played an active role in developing its nationally-renowned collection. A native of Detroit, Michigan, John received a Bachelor of Arts degree with High Honors in History from the University of Michigan in 1982. Two years later he received a Master of Arts degree with Honors in both History and Library Science from the same university, fulfilling the requirements for both degrees and specializing in archival administration. John has been an active genealogist for more than 30 years and is a past member of both the Society of Indiana Pioneers and the Mayflower Society. He is the author of ten books and numerous articles on local history and genealogy. His "Research in Indiana" was published by the National Genealogical Society in 1992. Most recently he edited and contributed extensively to the two-volume "History of Fort Wayne and Allen County, Indiana," published in 2006. He has served on several local non-profit boards in Fort Wayne, including the Allen County-Fort Wayne Historical Society, Quest Club (for which he currently chairs its centennial book committee), and the vestry of Trinity Episcopal Church. He is also a former board member of the Indiana Religious History Association and serves currently in a volunteer capacity as Archivist/Historiographer for the Episcopal Diocese of Northern Indiana. He and his wife, Amy, have two children. |
