I am researching the surname Wedgeworth. William Wedgeworth is the first known Wedgeworth in America. He was in York Co., PA as an adult, married Esther Mathews, had five sons (James, John, William, Joseph and Richard)and daughter Jane. He died in 1798 in Abbeville, South Carolina. In the 1820's Esther and the children with their families moved to Greene County (now Hale County) Alabama. Over time, the Wedgeworths spread from Alabama to Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas and beyond.
