Hi, This is Ann Katherine Propst, a great-grandma residing in Brevard, NC just SW of Asheville with my husband, Sid, of almost 50 years. I was born in DC and my husband in Newton, NC. I've been at this genealogy pursuit for a number of years. On my maternal roots search, it's been like looking for a needle in a haystack as my mother died when I was 15, the only child of separated parents. My father was orphaned in 1916 and completed his education in St. Mary's Industrial School for Boys in Baltimore, MD. Neither parent imparted much of their early years - everything was a huge secret. I began my ancestral pursuit with only a couple of torn-out Bible pages and the knowledge that my msternal grandmother was a member of the DAR. My "brick walls" continue to be Snders in southern IN to DC where I found them on the 1920 census. The Alcorn, Everton, Mars, Forrester and Hemphill bunch remain a mystery. My husband, Sid, is related to just about all the early pioneer families of the Piedmont area of NC. Most of his ancestors arrives early on in PA, traveled the "wagon road" south into VA and NC. Our four sons, eleven grandkids and one great-grandson reside in MD. Of my generation, my brother resides in MD and a cousin lives in FL. Sid has a sister in MD, a brother in NC and two brothers in GA. His parents in their 90s reside in MD. Through the years, I have corresponded and finally met "face-to-face" many wonderful folks. I am a RootsWeb volunteer and subscribe to numerous lists there and at yahoogroups.com.
