Narrative offered by Jrich:
- That Elizabeth's father was John Turner (from Savage) is a matter of controversy and probably incorrect. Source:Perley, Sidney. History of Salem, Massachusetts, vol. 3, p. 37, lists her as a daughter of Robert Turner and Elizabeth Freestone, shoemaker of Boston and his wife. One of Eleazer Gedney's daughters, Elizabeth Gedney, is named in an agreement in 1691, as "niece of John Turner, merch't, dec'd, who bequeathed to her one hundred pounds" (Source:Essex Institute Historical Collections (Essex Institute Press), Vol. 16, p. 251, the agreement being cited is found in Essex deeds Vol. 9, p. 3). This John Turner d. 1680, leaving five children John, Elizabeth, Eunice, Freestone and Abiell. The distribution of the estate included the indicated bequest to Elizabeth Gedney (Source:Essex, Massachusetts, United States. Probate Records 1638-1691, Vol. 3, p. 399-400). The naming of a daughter Freestone suggests John was a son of Robert, i.e., he was using his mother's maiden name. Savage appears to incorrectly identify this John of Salem as son of John of Salem. Also, therefore the Elizabeth Turner who married Eleazer Gedney, his sister, was also a child of Robert Turner, not of John of Salem as Savage says. Robert's daughter Elizabeth was baptized in Boston 18 Jun 1648, "aged about 5 days".
