Transcript talk:Savage, James. Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England/v3p14

Defect 1

Savage seems to think that there were two of the name Edward. DataAnalyst offers that the single Edward theory is reported in,

"Families of Old Fairfield 1:359 and TAG 30:2-4, it appears that Jacobus and Coddington think there was one Edward with two wives."

Seversmith, Colonial Families of Long Island, New York and Connecticut, 4:1729-30, also identifies a single Edward Ketcham, who lived in Cambridge, England; Ipswich, Massachusetts; Southold, Long Island; and finally Stratford, Connecticut; where his will was proved in 1655.

Note, however, that when Savage mentions "Edward E. [who] m. Mary, d. of Richard Harcutt, but prob. he was of L. I. yet may have been the Stratford man" he might be referring to Edward of Stratford's grandson (son of John), who was born about 1650 and married Mercy Harcourt, daughter of Richard and Elizabeth (Potter) Harcourt (Seversmith, Colonial Families of Long Island, New York and Connecticut, 4:1717).--DataAnalyst 15:33, 5 May 2012 (EDT)
