Introduction to the document

Roman Catholic marriage registers for Usztye, Slovakia, survive going back to 1788 and are available on Family History Library film GS numbers 2062271 and 2062271. An index is also available on the later film. The first register covers 1788-1843 and consists of a ledger with hand drawn columns which contain: the ceremony date, names of the parties, their ages, their origin, their religion, the names of witnesses and minister(s). In this register these column headers are in Latin.

Given that this register includes ages, it, like the burial register of the same period, provides a window into those born and residing in Usztye into the middle of the 18th century and prior to the oldest available baptism register.

Introduction to transcription

In the original document, the marriage event is covered in one line per page. However, each line typically contains multiple values and in the transcription provided here, these values have been re-aligned to separate columns to enable sorting. The original was arranged like this:

Additionally, the prefix "Anos" or "An:" before the ages has been dropped, as has the inevitable designation of Catholic for "Religio" (column is not included in the transcript), and the page spanning section break headers denoting each year are instead represented with a multiple row span header in the transcript.
