DESTRUCTIVE FIRE AT CHARLTON.

Charlton. 9th February.
A destructive fire occurred this morning at Mrs. Pryke's boarding-house at Charlton. At about 5 o'clock Mrs. Pryke got up and lit a fire in the washhouse, and then went inside to finish dressing. Whilst doing so, she was startled to hear something on fire outside, and on going out found the building in a blaze. It was completely destroyed, nothing having been saved. The house was insured for £235 and the furniture for £155 in the Northern Company. The fire spread to the adjoining premises, occupied by Mrs. M'Connell. and her shop and dwelling were entirely consumed. A great part of the furniture was saved. The insurance on the premises was £133, and on the con- tents £70 in the London and Lancashire Company. The fire brigade did splendid work, and prevented the flames from spreading any further.
