The Tinkling Spring Meeting House was founded in 1738 and officially organized in its current location in 1740. The old burying ground was begun near the Church on or before this date. Seventy-seven heads of families, including Joseph Teas (abt 1700-1756) subscribed to the first building, constructed of logs, and were scattered over an area which now has the following villages and cities: Fishersville, Greenville, Hermitage, Staunton, Stuarts Draft and Waynesboro. Most of those who died in the early years of the settlement have no grave markers.
