1772 John Taylor, assignee of William Kavenaough, assignee of George Teeter, 30 acres opposite land Taylor now lives on below the mouth of Crab Creek, settled in 1772. Commisoners Certificates, p81. Kegley, 1982:108 The parcel involved here appears to be a portion of the 85 acre tract initially settled by Geoerge Teater in 1768. Teater apparently transferred this land by assignment to William Kavenaough, who then transferred 30 acres by assignment to John Taylor.

It was originally settled in 1772, but by whom is not clear---probably by Jeremiah Hatfield, who assigned it to Teeter, sometime between 1772 and 1774, who then assigned it to Carson. John Carson also appears on the Ebbing Springs Call with Teeter in 1773, so its likely they knew each other.

1778 19 August 1778. Washington County Court Minutes. Ordered that George Teeter be recommended...for Ensign in the militia of the county of Washington Summers, 1929:1001; See also Summers 1903:303, 855 This record is cited by some to indicate Revolutionary War Service of George Teater, and also used to suggest that teater was present at the battle of Kings Mountain. (e.g., Summers 1903:864). Neither view seems well founded. We would normally expect that an ensign would be a young man, probably under the age of 18, rather than an adult. As a result, this is most likely a record for George Teater Jr., rather than for the father. No data has been located that explicitly places George Teater (father or son) at Kings Mt. (Moss, 1990)
