Hi Jim. It seems we have mutual interests in lots of areas: SW VA, Borden's Grant, Old Chester County, and now here in Germanna.

This, like Borden's Grant, would be a good candidate for a "Project", or perhaps a Portal page, though either could become very all consuming. Not sure what the problem was in creating this in "place" namespace, though it might have been because there was already a place in Virginia by that name---but perhaps placeing it in "Template" namespace is the problem. (Notice the absence of all but the narrative text box in edit mode.---e.g., no place text box.) Long term I don't think "template" namespace is going to work. Recommend either placing this in Portal namespace, or just in article namespace.

The Portal namespace is an interesting addition. I'm not exactly crazy about the display elements, but I suspect you could do about anything you wanted to and wouldn't be restricted to the Portal templates unless you really liked them. And some of the templates clearly have their uses. (I've also picked up a few tricks looking at how they do things. Some of Jilliane's tricks are pretty cool.) In anycase, you'll probably have to copy things over rather than rename, though I've lately found that while rename doesn't usually work across name spaces, there is at least a couple of instances where that will work---special dispensation it seems.

Looks like you've invested considerable time in working up the description---even with a good starting point to work from, that takes time to do. The writeup would probably benefit by at least pointing to the underlying sources for Germanna Colony, rather than relying entirely on a website. I can probably add some of that if you'd like.

Also, if you like, I can help a bit with format and structure of the page. Don't want to get to heavy into another project, but format and layout is fairly straightforward. Q 19:59, 11 March 2009 (EDT)

Either is fine with me, since this is the first page I've "created", I'm not familiar with all of the nuances of the different type of pages. If you would be so kind to copy the information over to the other page (Portal or Article) and let me know where it is, that would be fine.
