Template talk:Bgraves3

Time for template update? [3 June 2017]

It would appear that Billion Graves has simplified their URLs, so this template and all linked pages that refer to it and give directions might need to be updated.

To keep it simple, I suggest leaving out the name and just piping the id number. More informative on our pages and less to enter.

  • Something like: "Bgravemem|530346" renders simply "530346" and links to the specific pg. --cos1776 12:25, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
Oops. I assumed this template was named similarly to Find A Grave's "Fgravemem". Come to think of it, wouldn't that also be easier to keep the names similar?
The original Bgraves template was set up like Fgravemem, but to reference a photo page not a person page. I was never sure if that was a misunderstanding or it was intentional because to reference the person page required two free parameters. I wrote this version which takes both parameters needed to reference the person page under the old URL scheme and, like Fgravemem, a third parameter to display. I suppose if we made a Bgravemem macro to use the new scheme we could make it look exactly like Fgravemem. (P.S. there are multiple issues pertaining to the present state of the original Bgraves template. Most significant is that the entire premise seems to be invalid since photos seem no longer to be accessible via individual URLhttps://www.werelate.org/w/index.php?title=Template_talk:Bgraves3&action=edit, except possibly by their owners.) --pkeegstra 13:28, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
This does not work. Looking at the URL that comes up when one looks at the Billion Graves page, there is no code and this template only builds the old style URL that depends on it. That means you have to guess what the code would have been. --Jrich 18:36, 26 March 2018 (UTC)
