Template:SpeculativeMother/doc

This template is used on a Person page to identify a possible mother of the person, when the relationship is neither generally accepted nor convincingly shown to be incorrect.

Usage

Place the following on the Person page.

{{SpeculativeMother|PersonPageName}}

where PersonPageName is the simple page name (without the "Person:"), like "Martha Dandridge (1)".

When using this template, it is particularly important to support the speculation with sources and notes. An unsupported speculation is not compelling.

You should also add a corresponding "SpeculativeChild" template on the speculative mother's Person page. That template usage should give the Person page name of the page you use this template on.

Suggested Placement

This template was designed for placement in the "Description" field of an event/fact, rather than for use within a narrative (note the label included in the display). However, it can be used in the "Narrative" section, followed by an explanation for the speculation.

Placing the template in "Birth" and "Alt Birth" facts might be particularly useful if there are alternate possibilities for estimated birth year and/or birth place that depend on who the mother was. Alternately, a fact type of "Other" can be used.

Example

{{SpeculativeMother|Martha Dandridge (1)}}

will appear as:

Speculative mother: Martha Dandridge (1)
