This template adds the comment "sic", indicating that is what the record says, despite apparent discrepancies. Usually this indicates it was interpreted to be different, either due to error, misspelling, mistranscription, etc.
An optional argument may be passed, which adds the argument to provide additional elaboration or clarification.

{{sic|probable typo}} gives [sic - probable typo]
This uses the Addedcomment template to follow a convention for formatting embedded comments, so it is clear that it is not part of the original record, but added for clarity.
