The program yONE was used to evaluate Cowan YDNA test results available on Family Tree YDNA. The current family history for those results were used to identify likely members of the "Seven Brothers Group" of Cowans, (largely as defined by Source:Fleming, 1971). An initial run identified a suite of kits that compared favorably with each other, and were tentatively designated as "Seven Brothers Cowans". A signature for these kits was developed using the modal values of each marker. yONE was then rerun to compare the signature against all of the kits in the study. A total of 47 out of 143 kits, matched the signature using a "13%" dissimilarity criteria. That is, kits whose yONE Score were less than or equal to 13% dissimilarity when measured against the signature, were considered to be "Seven Brothers". See: Seven Brothers YDNA signature for data.
