Surname talk:Conrique

Watchers

The "Surname: Conrique" posting was made as a response to some confusing information that has been appearing on the web about the origins of that surname, with some people erroneously advancing the premise that ALL Conrique-named persons derived their surname from the 'condensation' of Cohen-Henriquez that occurred about 1850, only a few generations ago, when there is documentation of 2 Conrique family branches existing in Mexico --- one in Jalisco and another in Guanajuato --- more than 100 years before that. See [1]

My research on the Conrique genealogy has been made, and continues, at the urging (maybe even nagging) of my family, and already encompasses 11 generations and over 600 names,--- centered primarily on the Jalisco branch and its more than 200 descendants in California. Further research, as it continues to expand its breadth and generational reach, may reveal that the Guanajuato and Jalisco branches have a common ancestry or may confirm, at least as it relates to the Jalisco branch, that the surname did originate in France as multiple indicants in our family suggest.

When in mid-2006 I came accross "We Relate", I was impressed with its structure and contents and decided that it was a uniquely suitable forum to make these 'clarifying' postings. If appropriate (and if I learn how to navigate and utilize the sophisticated features of this website), 'We Relate' might end up being the site where this extended Conrique family tree, and its related branches gets published.

Any additional information about this surname that may be provided by visitors to this site would be appreciated, and thankfully reciprocated.
