This surname from the early days of New Netherlands comes from Anthony De Hooges 1620-1655, a prominent early official. He had five daughters and one son, Johannes, and of Johannes's eight children only the daughters had descendants, so the surname no longer exists AFAIK, even though Anthony has countless living descendants today.
