THE RESEARCH PAPER BEGINS AS: "The family of Hugh Weir of Rockbridge Co., VA who died in 1779 has been extensively researched over the past century. Probably the single best source of the research has been Weir/Wear: From Here and There to the White House (1990) by Olga Jones Edwards and JoAnn Wear Spore. This book had identified many of the children of “Old Hugh” Weir of Rockbridge Co., VA and where his descendants had migrated across the country. That included President George H. W. Bush (41st President of the US), who was a descendant of Jonathan Weir, a son of Hugh Weir of Rockbridge Co., VA. However, some of the children of Hugh Weir had not been identified at the writing of the book in 1990. One of the mysteries that still had not been completely solved was the connection to the Cunningham family...."
