This database contains a variety of publications listing the names of students, faculty, alumni, and others associated primarily with preparatory and similar schools, including academies, high schools, seminaries, reform schools, institutes, industrial schools, military academies, dance schools, grammar schools, Latin schools, and others. Some of these institutions evolved from a high school to university level.

The majority of the books are from the 19th century. They come from 35 states, plus Washington, D.C. Most are from the New England area, though there are volumes from Ohio, California, Hawaii, New Mexico, and even a few volumes for schools in other countries.
