Principal daily newspaper for the greater New Orleans area, and for south Louisiana generally. Established as The Picayune in 1837, went through several minor name changes (always retaining "Picayune" in its name), and merged in 1914 with its principal rival daily, The New Orleans Times, to become The Times-Picayune. In 2019 the paper's title changed again, to Times-Picayune/The New Orleans Advocate. Coverage during the 19th & early 20th centuries often included obituaries and other local events throughout the section of the state below Baton Rouge. [edit] Additional history detailsIn 1980, the States-Item merged with the Times-Picayune to form Times-Picayune The States Item. The States-Item was the New Orleans States-Item from 1960 to 1970, and the New Orleans States and New Orleans Item for a bare two years before this. [edit] External links
