Contains conduct registers and other records recording details about convicts in the Texas prison system. Most served in Huntsville, though there are records for inmates who served in Rusk Penitentiary, and some spent time in surrounding prison camps and facilities. The bulk of the 280,000+ records are for the years 1875–1945, though there are a few earlier and later records. Details provided on each prisoner differ slightly, but the registers may include the following: Name, alias, record date, convict number, and prison location. The records also provide a partial history of a convict’s time in prison and can include details on crimes committed, sentence, pardon, discharge date, transfers, or escapes, and a physical description. |
