"This combined edition reprints the text of the original two-volumed 1955 edition exactly as it appeared in that edition. Thus the pagination of the second volume begins again at page 1 midway through this volume. Several documents in the original edition were printed only in Dutch, and they appear in that form in this edition as well. We have, however, provided translations for each of these documents in the Appendix."
