From the Preface:

"This work contains 19,396 names of persons who are believed to be descended from Joseph Loomis, who settled in Windsor, Conn, in 1630. A few of the names are, however, twice inserted, so that the number of different persons is only 19,000. It will be seen from Index first, that the names which occur most frequently are Strong, Olmsted, Burnbam, Skinner, Day, Hall, Judd, Nobel, Lyman, Janes, Hunt, Smith, Taintor, Brown, Root, Barber, Colt, Nettleton, etc."
