In 1983, the Lexington Herald merged with the Lexington Leader to form the Lexington Herald-Leader. The Lexington Herald started as the Lexington Daily Press, then became the Morning Herald in 1895 and finally the Lexington Herald in 1905. The title shift in 1905 came with the merger of the Lexington Morning Democrat, which started in 1902, and the Morning Herald.[1] The owner of the Lexington Leader purchased the Lexington Herald in 1937, and the two titles were published concurrently until 1983, when they were merged to form the Lexington Herald-Leader. The two titles were purchased by Knight-Ridder in 1973, and the merger took place under this ownership.[2] [edit] References
