[edit] ▼ DescriptionThomas Lechford, an English solicitor by training, was the first practicing lawyer in America and the first lawyer to have been disbarred in America as well. His stay in America was brief, from 27 Jun 1638 to 3 Aug 1641, during which time he kept detailed records of his activities in his "Note-Book". This book contains those records, edited by Edward Everett Hale, Jr., from the original manuscript, with the use of notes and material prepared by J. Hammond Trumbull and others of the American Antiquarian Society (Worcester, Massachusetts). Also included is "A sketch of the life of Thomas Lechford. By J. Hammond Trumbull": p. vii-xxviii.
