A digital version of the newspaper is available, but requires a subscription. Wikipedia indicates that the paper is owned by Landmark Media Enterprises, but the website banner for the paper has the imprint "Better Newspapers Inc." in large text, suggesting that maybe the paper changed hands after 2020, which is the currency of the data in the Wikipedia article. [edit] Historical informationFrom Repository:Chronicling America Historic American Newspapers, specifically records "About The leader-union" and "About Vandalia leader-union". Chronicling America suggests Leader-Union as an alternate current title. The current title dates to 1983 and was preceded by Vandalia Leader-Union, which is the title that Wikipedia shows for the periodical. Vandalia Leader-Union was formed through the merger of The Vandalia Leader and The Vandalia Union in 1979, the former maybe starting in the 1950s while the latter began in the late 19th Century. This Source Record covers the merged paper and not either of the preceding papers. [edit] ObituariesAs of 2023, the Obituaries section of the paper's website contains listings back to November 2007, which is rather unusual for a local paper and is unlikely to persist for the long term. |
