The Illinois Regional Archivies Depository(IRAD)System is composed of seven depositories located throughout the state. Each depository stores and manages archival records for a particular counties, townships, municipalities and school districts. They continually receive new records from these locations.

To get information about a particular record you can call the depository where you records are located. You can also visit the depository in person to view and copy the archives. Copies can be ordered by phone or mail (limited to 2 at a time) and you pay for them after you receive them. Depending on the size of the paper, the copies cost anywhere from 10-25 cents per sheet. Postage is free.

The IRAD website is also an excellent source of information about individual counties in Illinois and what types of records are available.
