John Eliot, the oldest son of Philip and Rebecca Champman Eliot, was born ca. 1683. He was living at Liskeard, Cornwall, when he married Hester Chappell of Topsham, Devon, in 1706. They settled at Falmouth, where two son and a daughter were born. Hester died before 1719. His business florished and he moved the family to London. He married 2) Theophila Bellers, in 1719. They had three daughters. He died at Croydon in 1762. The history of his son, John Eliot (1707-1735) and his descendants is traced through family letters, Bible records, diaries, business records, etc. The family were Quakers.
