Hatfield, Emanuel. Stories of Hatfield, the Pioneer. (Philadelphia: Dorrance, 1978). |
Written by a son of Ale Hatfield, and one of the earliest settlers of Greene County, Indiana. Originally published in a small edition c.1880, copies of which are extremely scarce. The Dorrance edition (which calls itself "3d ed." on the title page) is a photoreproduction, underwritten by one of the author's descendants.
Emanuel was widely regarded as (and obviously considered himself as) a "mighty hunter." His memoirs are concerned mostly with detailed descriptions of his hunting prowess in Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois. He supplies some genealogical data incidentally.
