This index covers stillbirth events registered with the civil authorities in England and Wales. It does not cover Scotland or Northern Ireland which have their own civil registration systems. The index begins 1 July 1927 at the start of civil registration of stillbirths in England and Wales. Access to stillbirth records is strictly controlled due to the sensitive nature of stillbirths. Certificates are normally only produced from the registers for close family relatives.
