About the series

From 1905 to 1912, William Armstrong Crozier (1864-1913) and The Genealogical Association published a series of articles containing abstracted information from county courthouses throughout Virginia. Although the articles were originally issued with varying titles, the series became collectively known as the "Virginia County Records" and the articles have been reprinted in various combinations over the years.

Publications were originally issued as follows:

  • a series of monographs, 1905 - 1908 (v 1-5)
  • a quarterly periodical, Mar 1909 - Dec 1910 (v 6-7)
  • a monograph, 1911 (v 8)
  • a quarterly periodical, 1911 - 1912 (v 9 - v 10 pt. 3) [Note: v 10 pt. 4 never published]
  • a monograph, 1931 (new series, v 1), published posthumously by Mrs. William A. Crozier

Many of the original publications had distinctive titles and for some, the title varied slightly within the volume, such as:

  • v 9, pts. 2-3 were titled Virginia county records and heraldic quarterly register of the United States and Canada : official publication of the College of Arms of Canada;
  • v 9 pt. 4 - v 10 were titled Virginia county records and heraldic quarterly register;
  • the new series was titled Virginia county record publications
