Description

Mrs. Ann (Baker) Carson told her story to Mary Clarke, who wrote it down. Mrs. Clarke probably embellished the story.

Usage Tips

  • Volume 1 has 230 pages with a preface by Mrs. Clarke, and some of Ann's correspondence.
  • Volume 2 has 175 pages, plus a prologue by Mrs. Mary Clarke, starting on p 81. This prologue was written several years after Ann's death, maybe as late as 1838, when the book was re-published as a second edition. The story that Ann told is, of course, prejudiced to her own cause. Mrs. Clarke's prologue supposedly tells "the rest of the story."]
