This collection is a card index to naturalization records in the district and circuit courts of Northern California. Each court underwent jurisdictional and name changes over time. The circuit court(s) include: the Special Circuit Court, 1855-1863; the Tenth Circuit Court, 1863-1866; the Ninth Circuit Court for the District of California, 1866-1886; and the Circuit Court for the Northern District of California, 1886-1911. The District Courts included are: the Northern District of California, 1852-1916; the Southern Division of the Northern District, 1917-1966; the Northern District, 1966-1973; and the Northern Division of the Northern District, 1973-1989.
