The Dorset History Centre is the equivalent of the Record Office in other counties. It holds many of the original Parish registers for Dorset on microfilm (list of those available). Weymouth and Portland parish records for Wyke Regis, Melcombe Regis and Weymouth have been made available to view and search online.

Dorset has placed most of their genealogical information with Ancestry. This website and that of the The Dorset History Centre include direct links to Ancestry's databases. The initial search is free, but a subscription is necessary to get further information.
