Local help for Victoria County [20 July 2012]

Why don't you make a template of your addition to the Mariposa page and add it to each Victoria County page.

Template-making? http://www.werelate.org/wiki/Help:Places (Section 1.12 onwards) and http://www.werelate.org/w/index.php?title=Help:Formatting

Arrangement of Research Tips [5 August 2012]

Would you consider placing your research tips for the local area under the ones that start with Ontario Archives? Or adding back a title prior to the template Ontario Archives? At the moment the flow isn't good.

Once I got into the swing of things as I work county by county, I use a second template after Ontario Archives named "county--in this case, Victoria" local provision. This saves copying in the wording everywhere you want it.

Yesterday John Reid announced on his blog that Internet Archive had added a whole lot of late 19th century voters lists. I don't think there were any Victoria County ones, but I have now added an extra sentence to my local provision template informing people that Internet Archive is a place to look.

Renfrew is my next county. I seem to be making a circle round the eastern counties. Hastings, Prince Edward, Peterborough, Victoria (if you haven't completed it), Haliburton.... coming up. --goldenoldie 02:07, 23 July 2012 (EDT)

I know the flow isn't good. Rearrange things as you see best and I will try to stick to that format on other townships. At some time I would like to put a list of place names, not just the legal places but also the many areas that one may find referred to in a letter such as Taylor's Corners or The Glen in Mariposa or Pleasant Point and Thurstonia in Fenelon.--50vicar 11:38, 5 August 2012 (EDT)

Recent alterations [5 August 2012]

I've added the references to maps and made a few other changes.

  • I hope the mayor won't mind having her name removed.
  • Book titles now italicised.

The temptation to make all those biographies into WR pages is pressing. But that is so every time I find a book of them online. (smile) --goldenoldie 09:19, 5 August 2012 (EDT)
