Location of Hornby Castle [14 April 2022]

Hornby Castle was previously located in the parish of Wensley. There were various reasons why this didn't seem right:

  • The article in Wikipedia for Wensley mentioned Bolton Hall as being a prominent manor in Wensley, but there was no reference to Hornby Castle.
  • Also, the Wikipedia article on Hornby Castle described it as being between Leyburn and Bedale (which is east of Leyburn), and Wensley is immediately southwest of Leyburn. Leyburn and Bedale are quite a distance apart.
  • Wensley is one of many parishes in Wensleydale, albeit the one for which the dale or valley was named.
  • Maps show a "castle" close to the northern border of Hornby (near Catterick).
  • The co-ordinates for Hornby are 54.339°N 1.660°W, while those of Hornby Castle are 54.339°N 1.653°W

I have therefore redirected Hornby Castle from Wensley to Hornby (near Catterick).--Goldenoldie 19:35, 14 April 2022 (UTC)
