Rachel Elizabeth Thompson

Rachel Elizabeth Thompson (1799 - 1867) donated the land for the original Zion Hill Cemetery and for the second site of Zion Hill Baptist Church, which stood just south of this marker. Flooding on White Rock Creek at the time of her death prohibited burial at this site. She was buried in September, 1867 at Poston Ford, about 2 miles north of this spot, in a grave which is now lost. This memorial is dedicated to the loving memory of Rachel Elizabeth Thompson by eight generations of her descendants. June 27, 1999
