A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Winton from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"WINTON, a township in Sigston-Kirby parish, [North Riding of] Yorkshire; 4 miles NE by E of Northallerton. Acres: 1,354. Population: 97. Houses: 20."

Winton was originally a township in the ancient parish of Kirby Sigston in the Allerton Wapentake of the North Riding of Yorkshire. Winton was made a civil parish in 1866 and in 1894 it became part of the Northallerton Rural District.

By 1900 the civil parish had been renamed Winton Stank and Hallikeld, Stank and Hallikeld being hamlets within the parish (see this Ordnance Survey map from A Vision of Britain through Time)

Since 1974 Winton Stank and Hallikeld has been a civil parish in North Yorkshire, specifically within the Hambleton District.
