A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Whaddon from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"WHADDON, a parish in the [registration] district and county of Gloucester; 3 miles S of Gloucester [railway] station. Post town: Gloucester. Acres: 727. Real property: £1,418. Population: 125. Houses: 21. The property is divided among a few. The living is a [perpetual] curacy, annexed to Brookthorpe. The church was partly restored in 1855."

Whaddon is almost contiguous with the city of Gloucester suburb of Tuffley.

In 1935 Whaddon was divided between Gloucester and Brookthorpe, a rural parish 1 mile (1.6 km) to the south (now on the opposite side of the M5 motorway. The widened parish was simply known as Brookthorpe until 1956 when it was renamed Brookthorpe with Whaddon. (Source: Wikipedia on the modern parish of Brookthorpe with Whaddon.)
