Westleigh is now a suburb of Leigh, in Wigan, Greater Manchester. It originated as one of six townships in the ancient ecclesiastical parish of Leigh, that with Pennington and Bedford merged to form the town of Leigh in 1875.

The township had a significant coal mining industry from before 1850 until at least 1920. There were also at least three cotton mills in the township. (source:Wikipedia)
