West Melton is a former mining village in the parish of Brampton-Bierlow in South Yorkshire, England. It lies between Wath-upon-Dearne and Brampton Bierlow, roughly 5 miles north of Rotherham and 5 miles south east of Barnsley.
In 1894 West Melton was separated from Brampton-Bierlow and became a civil parish and a component part of Wath-upon-Dearne Urban District. In 1923 it was absorbed into Wath-upon-Dearne civil parish. Since 1974 it is a part of Rotherham Metropolitan Borough, one of the unitary authorities of South Yorkshire.
Historically, West Melton was part of the ecclesiastical parish of Wath-upon-Dearne in the wapentake of Strafforth and Tickhill.
