A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Weetslade from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:

"WEETSLADE, or Weetslet, a township in Long-benton parish, Northumberland; 5½ miles N of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. It contains the villages of Seaton-Burn, Six-Mile-Bridge, and part of Hazlerigg. Population in 1851: 1,353; in 1861: 2,828. Houses: 503. The increase of population arose from the opening of a new colliery."

Weetslade was made into a civil parish and an urban district in 1894 from part of the parish of Longbenton. In 1935 it was abolished and the area absorbed back into the parish of Longbenton. (Source: A Vision of Britain through Time)
