Waverly is a town in Franklin County, New York, United States. The population was 1,022 at the 2010 census. The town is on the western border of the county, southwest of Malone. [edit] History
The town of Waverly was formed in 1880 from part of the town of Dickinson. Half its area was lost to the town of Altamont (the present-day town of Tupper Lake) in 1890. The St. Regis Falls area was a major lumber producer, and the Northern Adirondack Railroad was built from Moira, connecting the area to the Ogdensburg and Lake Champlain Railroad. The Azure Mountain Fire Observation Station was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. [edit] Research Tips
